Dan Bell

Dan Bell - Owner / Coach

Certifications: CrossFit L1, Personal Trainer Diploma L3, Precision Nutrition ProCoach L1, KBT Powerlifting L1, CrossFit Gymnastics Cert.

What do you specialize in?

I like to work with members who are interested in getting strong! If you're looking to peak for a marathon, I'm not your coach. But those who want to be strong and powerful, I want to work with you!

Using the main Powerlifts (Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift) and accessory lifts we can see were your weaknesses are and focus in on them. Gaining strength takes time but it truly does transfer over into most aspects of fitness.

And for those who want to put some muscle on, this is the way to do it!

Please email me at dan@route1fitness.com if you're interested. We will meet up for a free consultation to discuss your goals and what the plan of action may be.

What are you passionate about?

Working towards making our gym the best training facility possible, building an amazing team of coaches and creating our tribe of members who are smashing their goals month on month!

What do you love most about coaching your members?

Being able to have a bit of banter with the members whilst still working hard. We like to retain our members for life pretty much so you really get to know people. I'm not interested in working with people for just a few months.

What is your athletic background?

I served as an Infantryman with the Army (1 Rifles) and am proud to say was part of Op Herrick 9 in Afghanistan. After leaving the army I didn't have a specific goal to train for so I started to experiment with all types of training and basically becoming a gym rat. I have now competed in several team and individual competitions for CrossFit.

How did you end up as a CrossFit coach?

I was a fitness trainer for years before finding CrossFit. Once I got involved in classes as a member I wanted to learn everything I could and start coaching myself. Fast forward meeting this old man called Glen who was also coaching, we knew we could one day do an awesome job at opening our own gym. Now here we are!

Kris Dochev - coach

My name is Kris and I am coach at Route 1 Fitness. I got myself into fitness as a way to improve myself when I was 15.

I have 7 years of boxing background at national level in Bulgaria as well as some international fights at professional level. Boxing had been a big part of my life but I had to stop due injury.

I went to a normal gym to keep in shape after I relocated to UK, but didn’t work out for me as I get bored and didn’t see much improvement. A friend of mine told me about Crossfit and how great it is, so I decided to give it a go. I did it and I didn’t regret it!

Since then Crossfit changed and keeps changing my life! To me Route 1 is about the community that we have and the great support and encouragement, so in the same time you are having fun and smashing your goals and you are having the best hour of your day leaving all the problems at the door and becoming the best version of yourself, which is one of the reasons I wanted to be a coach.. to deliver that same feeling that I had as a member.

I am a firm believer that good movement mechanics, nutrition, sleep and exercise are the most important things for a healthy lifestyle and I’d like to attend as many seminars and take as many certificates as possible so I keep educating myself in that direction, as I know it’s an endless process, I want to help anyone who is willing to improve in that direction.

In general I like to help others whenever is possible, so what’s better than doing this everyday by teaching better movement mechanics when exercising which will apply to everyday life providing safety, efficiency, functioning well and longevity so people stay away from medicines and hospitals and live an independent life. Personally my main goal as an athlete is to train for health and longevity mostly and also occasionally compete for fun.

My favourite movements are the snatch, because it’s the hardest and the burpee, because when life knock you down-do a burpee!

sam o'connor - COACH

Certifications: CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Level 2, CrossFit Weightlifting, CrossFit Anatomy, CrossFit Judges Course

What do you specialize in?

Within CrossFit I specialise in Olympic Weightlifting and Endurance. With my
background in the pool and cross country I understand how to ‘go long’ better
than most in a CrossFit gym.

What are you passionate about?

My passion is people moving for health. I have a genuine belief that good
nutrition, eating enough but not too much, combined with functional
movements performed at high intensity can stave off many metabolic diseases
that plague the modern world. Perhaps I have drunk a little too much of the
Kool-Aid; but I have seen the tremendous change that can be brought about
through a group of likeminded individuals, a family, that is found at a CrossFit
Gym.

What do you love most about coaching your members?

My favourite thing about coaching CrossFit is that I get a chance to give
people the best hour of their day, and within that hour I have an opportunity to
make people just one tiny bit better. To improve movement, mobility and
capacity, and through that improvement increase the quality of life of every
single member at Route 1.

What is your athletic background?

I started swimming at the age of 5 and was competing in the water ever since.
There was a brief flirtation with cross country and middle distance running
before going on to play water polo at a national level and Lifesaving Sport on
the international stage, ultimately winning a world championship medal in
2014.

How did you end up as a CrossFit coach?

It was a result of the strength and conditioning programme that I was following
for Lifesaving Sport that I discovered CrossFit. The concept of testing and
training work capacity is very appealing to my analytical nature. I first walked
in a box in 2014 and have been infatuated ever since.

key distinction is that you pay attention to the right details, the ones within your
control and over which you have power”
